Fundamentals is the third key component, fundamentals are things you do daily without having to thinking about them. The new international Webster’s concise dictionary (2000) defines fundamentals as “Anything that serves as the foundation of a system, as a truth, law or principle” (p. 287). Fundamentals are like the foundation for a skill, and a beginning point and in the case of sports the fundamentals must be in place by every member to have a unified team. Fundamentals are the basics that all must have to experience success, a characteristic of a unified team is they practice the basic fundamentals very well, fundamentals is that skill you use so much that you don’t have to think about what you are doing. For example when a basketball player plays in a position where they are the primary dribbler they have become so skilled, that its like second nature to them, all the movements involved in dribbling has been practiced so much that they don’t have to think about how their wrist has to be relax, fingers form a suction cup effect round the ball, and the ball is pushed out in front to allowing themselves to go fast without thinking about the mechanics of this skill. The basic fundamentals in basketball are as follow dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense. When teams are fundamentally sound in these areas they will experience success.
Attitude the fourth key component, the new international Webster’s concise dictionary (2000) Defined Attitude as “State of the mind behavior or conduct as indicating ones feeling, opinion or purpose”. (p.46). Attitude can be positive or negative we can reveal our attitude in our body language, I believe we say more in our body language than what we actually say with our words. Attitudes are revealed in our facial expressions, tone of voice, and our thoughts. However when a team is positive to one another they will produce synergy that brings success. A team with a positive attitude thinks and believes they can accomplish any task at hand. Maxwell (2002) states, “The best teams does not always win it’s usually the team that gets along the best” (p. 62). The writer of this document believes when a team get along it allows the team to bond and when the team bonds enthusiasm comes and when enthusiasm comes is fuel for a positive attitude.
